Corio

refurbishment of an old city market

Italy / 2012

competition with Giuliana Picca Garino

second price

The competition published by Corio Municipality, a tiny village in Lanzo Valley in Piedmont, aims at restoring the space underneath a timber canopy once used as a farmer market.

The project wants to give this space back to people by creating a vibrant and dynamic environment where the activities needed by the local community find their home and create a new identity for the area.

A new translucent cladding is designed to define the space under the existing roof, whereas a new functional volume becomes the joint between the slope and the inner space. New ramps enhance the use of the outdoor areas otherwise tough to be reached and enjoyed.
